BABY EYE TEST

In the DF it is mandatory by law to do the eye test as soon as the baby is born. The test is made to identify possible problems in the child's eye health. If your baby has been tested at the maternity hospital and the result was normal, he or she should be followed up at one year of age.

CHILD TREATMENT

The child's eye health needs to be monitored every 1 or 2 years throughout childhood, as recommended by the Brazilian Society of Ophthalmology. Some eye diseases do not show symptoms until they are in an advanced stage. Doctors specialists in pediatric ophthalmology are best suited for ongoing follow-up. Bring your child for an evaluation.

LAZY EYE

Occasionally, eye health problems have no warning signs that parents may observe. When the child has one "lazy" eye and the other one normal, she performs all activities without difficulty due to the healthy eye. If not identified early in life, the sequelae in vision development can be permanent. Bring your baby for an appointment.

PERIODIC

FOLLOW-UP

Make an annual assessment with an ophthalmologist to monitor your eye health and prevent serious eye disease. Some eye diseases, such as glaucoma, do not manifest themselves until they are in a more advanced degree. Everyone over 40 years of age is recommended to check eye pressure at least once a year.

CORRECTIVE  LENS

It is not enough to find out the degree of the patient, he has to feel good about the prescribed correction. If you could not adapt with the glasses, schedule an appointment with us. There are several solutions to correct vision, including various types of eyeglass lenses, contact lenses and surgery. We are ready to advise and reach a satisfactory result.

EYE DISEASES

Some eye diseases have a higher incidence in adults, such as pterygium, glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Carcinoma, dry eye, facial paralysis, blepharospasm, dacryocystitis, tearing and xanthelasma are also treatable diseases.

RISK PATIENTS

Some illnesses such as diabetes, AIDS, syphilis and herpes can cause eye problems. Immediate treatment is crucial in combating these problems.

UNDERSTAND THE MAIN EYE DISEASES

According to the World Health Organization, the main causes of low vision and blindness, in order of frequency, are: Refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism), cataract, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, corneal opacities and trachoma.

MYOPIAS

Myopia is a condition that makes it difficult to focus on distant objects. Studies indicate that the incidence of myopia in children has doubled in recent years. This has been one of the main topics presented at ophthalmology congresses. Several recommendations have been made to try to control this epidemic, such as doing outdoor activities, avoid reading in the dark, and using Atropine eye drops.

HYPEROPIA

Hyperopia is a type of refractive error (degree) that makes the person need to exercise a greater than normal visual effort to see, especially close objects. In addition to the difficulty of seeing at close range, you can change the view from afar as well. Due to increased visual strain, farsightedness can cause strabismus, headache, irritation, difficulty in concentrating. Some cases of hyperactivity and difficulty in school may be due to the presence of farsightedness.

ASTIGMATISM

Astigmatism is an imperfection in eye curvature that can lead to blurred vision. It is usually related to other problems such as myopia and farsightedness. Astigmatism may be the first sign of a major disease, keratoconus. We recommend an annual evaluation for patients with this condition.

KERATOCONUS

Keratoconus is the leading cause of corneal transplantation in the world. It is a disease characterized by a corneal thinning associated with topographic change (change in corneal curvature) and astigmatism. There are some treatment options that can stop the evolution of the disease but should preferably be performed in the early stages. We therefore recommend close monitoring for children and all patients with astigmatism.

Com Catarata.png

CATARACT

Cataract is an opacity in the natural lens of the eye that affects vision and can lead to blindness. The disease affects the elderly, people with diabetes and glaucoma, and can also manifest in babies. Diagnosis is made through clinical evaluation and treatment is performed through cataract surgery. The optimal timing of the surgery, the type of surgery to be performed, the technique and the type of lens to be implanted are discussed in detail with every patient.

CONJUNCTIVITIS

Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, which covers the white part of the eye. It is usually caused by allergies, bacterial or viral infection. The disease causes symptoms such as redness, itching and discharge in the eye. The diagnosis is clinical and is treated by eye drops that vary according to the type of conjunctivitis. Some cases may leave spots or opacities on the cornea, causing poor vision, and for that reason they are on the World Health Organization's attention list.

DIABETIC

RETINOPATHY

It is a complication that occurs when the excess of glucose in the blood causes damage to the retinal blood vessels of diabetic patients. These injuries are minor bleedings (or "strokes") that occur in the back of the eye, so this way the disease can cause progressive or sudden loss of vision. It is diagnosed through tests and is treated through diabetes control, intraocular remedies, laser and surgeries.

AMD

Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a disease that leads to progressive loss of central vision through blurred vision and the formation of blurs in the visual field. Usually occurs with people over 60 years. Treatment is by intravitreal injections and follow-up exams.

GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma is a disease in the optic nerve that leads to vision loss. It is a more common disease after age 40 but may also manifest before this age. The most common sign of glaucoma is increased intraocular pressure and often has no initial symptoms. For this reason, it is recommended to check intraocular pressure once a year for all over 40 years of age. The treatment is done by the use of eye drops, laser and in more severe cases, surgery.
